Welcome back!!
I'm back! Or Am I?
At the end of 2021, I bought a one-way ticket to Deutschland and left in haste. Many goodbyes are pending. Many people have been left behind. The pandemic helped - because before or after the pandemic, making such a clean break and a smooth exit would’ve been impossible, and coming up with an innovative excuse to skip farewells would’ve required brain gymnastics. But what happened since then? Where has this girl been? Why Germany?
If you’re not caught up, let me jog you down the memory lane with the 2 links below, where I assert that there are more newsletters coming, you just wait, I’m totally, definitely writing, and all that -
Ok, what was not mentioned in the previous newsletters is the origin story of my move. Well, it was not too dramatic - Sometimes, when destiny calls, it calls you at 8 a.m on an unsuspecting morning, as a friend who shares that he has decided to go to Germany, and thinks I must chop-chop and not waste away in my then-situation and situationship. When I now look back at that memory, I think angels of heaven and devils of Santacruz, all had the same voice - and they all pointed at the jokes and paperwork that await me in Germany.
When I look back, I also think I should’ve documented all the memories along the way - because the only thing truly worse to me than ice cream melting onto my fingers on a summer day is the hot goss of my life being replaced weekly, and most of it fading out of my memories. But again, what did I know of the burden of a creative writer whose day job also involves writing? The thrill of sneaking away to the most comfortable spot in the right-hand corner of their favourite brown, velvet-covered couch, placed in the hidden corner of their mind for a few minutes to type something cutesy or whimsical into their Evernote app might be something they’re too tired to do at the end of their working day. But again, who knew. (I actually already did, but I like making excuses because sometimes, it really isso*.)
Anywayyyyyy, what I basically wanted to do here right now is welcome you all - yes, all 30(?!) of you - once again after the long hiatus, and tell you to brace yourselves for newsletters. If you remember me and the absolute rubbish way I live, you already know that there is no regular schedule so don’t brace yourself too tightly on my account. But I hope the arrival of my newsletter surprises you today, and reminds you of the nice friend who was away for summer holidays during school breaks, but has returned, and stands below your building screaming your name to ask if you want to hang. Or I hope it catches you like a friend’s text asking you to open the door because they’re outside and didn’t want to ring the doorbell.
Until I see you next time, here are some interesting reads -
Tokyo had a crow problem. I read this article and thought of the Hitchcock movie “The Birds”. Naturally, others drew the same parallel, no surprises here. What’s funny about this is that, people v/s crows is an ongoing problem and they now have a Crow Controller gadget (thanks, Doraemon).
When it comes to Japan, you may have watched many reels about how Japan lives in the future. Here are some more wonderful things they’ve got.
Since we’re on the topic, here’s something about the painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa -
